The unique role of the male of the human species is to be subversive. The male wants things -- that is what he does. Sometimes he wants quiet and order, when he is at the top of the social structure. When he is not (and that is most of time) that is when he has the innate tendency towards subversion, gambling, risk-taking, creativity, cruelty, and all the rest.

The female(s) wants the things the male(s) want (a hunting party, a village, an empire) to actually work. That is why females do all the work and pick up all the pieces.
