Missing Cable
I've moved about 20 kilometers from Shuswap Lake to Little Shuswap Lake. I'm quite near the smallish town of Chase now. I did the actual move over this past weekend. Pretty exhausting, even though I hired movers to move the sofa's, tables, etc.. When I got the stereo/DVD/Cd/Tv all connected and working at the new place, I felt very proud of myself, as I always forget between moves how they all connect together, and how the FM antenna works (so I can get CBC radio), and the wireless connection for the two extra speakers that I put in the kitchen. The landlord has "given" me a big tv (sort of goes with place ... was left behind by a previous tenant) as well that is connected to a satellite, so I can watch PBS as well as BBC and a whole bunch of other more conventional commercial stuff. Didn't have any broadcast tv at the other lake house, so I hope I don't waste too much time watching tv now. This big tv is rather odd in that the screen goes very dark if you look at it from different angles. Anyway, I've found the angle that works well.
However, the movers managaed to lose one of the cables that connected the receiver/cd/etc, etc. All the other cables were in one big ball, from when they took it a part, all at once. So it seems impossible for the one little cable to have escapted going into a ball, but it did. No doubt I will find it many years from now. Luckily, I have a little bucket filled with leftover cables, stereo wire and stuff like that. And, low and behold, a cable that worked was in the bucket and CBC radio flooded the house.
Basides the nice view of Shuswap Lake, the nice things about this new house is that there is no road between the house and the beach, plus it has a real wood fireplace. I had the fireplace going all day Sunday, which was lovely, although I spent more time chopping wood than I wanted!
On my recent trip I did spend one night in London, but basically did it shivering at a bus stop near the train station for several hours (train station was closed, oddly enough, from 1:30 to 4:30 am ... my train back to Liverpool left at 5:30 am). All to see a lady place music. Emma-Jane Thommen. When she puts out a new cd I will send any failure reader of this blog a copy, as I promised to buy 10.
